Over the first half of 2013 Achmea Hypotheekbank N.V. (Achmea Hypotheekbank or the Bank) earned a net profit after tax of EUR 16 million, compared to a net profit after tax of EUR 27 million in the first half year of 2012. The decrease in net profit after tax of EUR 11 million was mainly caused by a lower interest margin (-/- EUR 8 million) which was adversely affected by the Bank’s policy of building strong liquidity balances in anticipation of a peak in the Bank’s refinancing needs that are due in 2014.
