Amsterdam, 30 April 2007 - Kardan N.V. (Kardan) announces that its infrastructure subsidiary, Tahal Group B.V. (Tahal), has set up Kardan International Water Group Ltd, a joint-venture that will invest in and manage, operate and maintain water related infrastructure projects in China.
Kardan International Water Group is a joint-venture between Tahal and a group of experienced local professionals from the Chinese water industry. The combination of Tahal’s experience in water related infrastructure projects and the local expertise of the joint-venture partners creates a strong platform to enter the Chinese water market.
Tahal will hold a 66.6% interest in Kardan International Water Group, while the local partners will hold the remaining 33.3%.
The establishment of Kardan International Water Group is an important step in Tahal’s strategy to further develop its asset ownership activities. Kardan International Water Group plans to invest EUR 63.65 million during the next 24 months in selected projects relating to the development, management, operation and maintenance of water supply and waste water treatment infrastructure. In the future, Kardan International Water Group intends to become active in desalination projects as well.
Tahal is the holding company of the infrastructure activities of Kardan. Tahal operates internationally in the fields of investments, planning, design, construction and project management as well as in turnkey and ‘build operate transfer’ projects. Approximately 90% of the activities of Tahal are directly related to water and sewage systems.
