De Belgische FSMA en de Zweedse Finansinspektionen waarschuwen tegen Gemini Acquisitions
Waarschuwing van de FSMA van 4 mei 2016
The Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) warns the public against the activities of Gemini Acquisitions, a company that offers investment services.
Gemini Acquisitions approaches people who have previously been victims of investment fraud, offering to buy the shares which they had purchased from unauthorized companies. This offer is, however, made conditional upon payment of up-front fees to an “escrow agent”, in this case to the Escrow Service Group.
This practice is typical of “recovery room” fraud, a fraud mechanism about which the FSMA published a warning on 16 March 2015. Experience shows that the fees charged with a view to recovering one’s investment never make it possible to get back the money invested, and the fees paid for the purpose are thus lost as well.
The FSMA thus strongly advises against responding to any offer of financial service made by Gemini Acquisitions and Escrow Service Group and against transferring money to any account number they might mention.
Gemini Acquisitions uses the website www.gemini-acquisitions.com, the phone number 1-647-846-4508 and the email addresses email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org (contact person: someone known as Leslie C. Butler). It claims to have its registered office in Canada (TD Canada Trust Tower, Floor 31, 161 Bay Street, Toronto, Ontario, M5J 2S1).
Escrow Service Group uses the website www.escrowservicegroup.com, the email address email@example.com and the phone number +852 3050 9035. It claims to have its registered office in Hong Kong (Dah Chong Hong Building, Level 23, 25 Westlands Road, Hong Kong, S.A.R.).
Gemini Acquisition and Escrow Service Group were the subject of a warning published by Finansinspektionen, the Swedish supervisory authority, dated 22 February 2016.
If you wish to check in general whether a proposed transaction complies with the financial regulations, please use the search function (available in Dutch and French only) on the website of the FSMA. You can also contact the FSMA (email address: firstname.lastname@example.org).
