Market monitor Caribbean Netherlands
Every two years, the Dutch Authority on Financial Markets (AFM) requests companies that are or were active in the Caribbean Netherlands and are under the supervision of the AFM to fill in the Market Monitor Caribbean Netherlands (MMBES). The Caribbean Netherlands entails Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.MMBES as a biennial survey
The MMBES was previously conducted annually, but after several years without a survey, it is now returning as a biennial survey. Completing the MMBES is mandatory for companies that operated in Caribbean Netherlands in 2024 and are supervised by the AFM.
The information gathered trough the MMBES offers us insights into market developments, the quality of business operations, and compliance with legal standards. additionally, the MMBES provides an overview of the market in the Caribbean Netherlands, enabling risk-based supervision. Trends and developments in product and service offering help identify key themes for our research.
What can you expect?
The MMBES is a digital questionnaire conducted in the second quarter of the year. The questionnaire exists of both general and specific questions about the company’s activities. The general questions relate to company information and financial activities in the Caribbean Netherlands. The specific questions focus on certain business activities and cover relevant topics from the laws and regulations applicable to the company in the Caribbean Netherlands.
Completing the MMBES
The questionnaire can be found under ‘reporting obligations’ in the AFM Portal. To give you some insight into the questions, we have created a PDF version of the complete questionnaire (pdf, 1.7 MB). This PDF contains more questions than the digital version, as questions that do not apply are not displayed in the digital version within the AFM portal. The questionnaire can only be completed digitally and must be submitted within six weeks. Companies receiving the request for information are legally required to cooperate in completing the questionnaire. The questionnaire is structured into different chapters, each covering a specific topic. For most questions, you can select only one answer, but in some cases, multiple answers are possible. This will be clearly indicated for the respective questions. If only one answer is possible, choose the one that best aligns with your company. The questions are numbered sequentially, but some may not be relevant to your company. In such cases, they will be automatically skipped.
Businesses are given six weeks to complete the questionnaire. They are advised to start in a timely manner.
