Laura van Geest in Frankfurt: ‘Make Europe Strong (Again)’
'My message is simple; it is only four words. Namely: Make Europe Strong (Again).' Laura van Geest (AFM board chair) stressed the importance of a strong Europe in her AFME keynote (20 May 2025).
Especially in these times of geopolitical tensions, Europe needs to pull together. With an audience consisting mainly of financials, Van Geest focused on three aspects: improving EU laws and regulations, the need for more efficient and centralised supervision, and the importance of a European mindset. 'It will be hard work and especially hard cooperation to achieve a true single European financial market. But on the other hand: Europe has also become great by working together. Difficult circumstances, threats or crises forced us to make breakthroughs. So let us also use these uncertain times for a new breakthrough. Make Europe Strong (Again).'
