Maarten Schönfeld appointed to the AFM Supervisory Board

Minister of Finance De Jager has appointed Mr Maarten Schönfeld (1949) to the AFM Supervisory Board effective as of 1 August 2012. Maarten Schönfeld fills the vacancy that arose as a result of the departure of Mr Tjalling Tiemstra.

Maarten Schönfeld has knowledge of and gained experience in the (international) business community. He has held several financial positions at Shell (a large number of them abroad) and he was Chief Financial Officer and vice chairman of the Management Board of Stork NV until 2008. Schönfeld was, among other things, member of the Supervisory Board or, as the case may be, Supervisory Council, of Arcadis, Brunel and TU Delft. He is also a member of the AFM's Financial Reporting Committee (until 1 October 2012).

The AFM Supervisory Board supervises policy pursued by the AFM Executive Board and general affairs. For this purpose, the Board supervises the (guarantees) for policy-based aspects, namely the performance of supervision in a general sense and guaranteeing the quality and effectiveness of said policy. In addition, the Supervisory Board monitors the commercial and organisational aspects of the AFM and adopts the annual figures. The Supervisory Board further assists the Board with its advice. The Chairman of the AFM Supervisory Board is Mr George Möller.
