Step 4: Check all steps
Pay close attention to the relevant procedures and requirements during all steps. Financial institutions and disputes committees deal with complaints subject to certain conditions.
What are those conditions?
- You have to submit a complaint to the financial institution as soon as possible. This can be up to one year after you could have been aware of the facts your complaint addresses.
- You have to submit your complaint to the Financial Services Ombudsman within three months of receipt of the financial institution’s response.
- You must submit your complaint to the Financial Services Disputes Committee within three months of receipt of the Financial Services Ombudsman’s response.
- Your complaint must drafted in the Dutch language. Your complaint may not be hand-written.
The Financial Services Complaints Board (Klachteninstituut Financiële Dienstverlening, or Kifid) will not handle your complaint in certain cases. More information can be obtained from the Kifid.
