Other regulators

The AFM is not alone in keeping an eye on the financial markets. There are several other regulators, each with their own tasks.

Dutch Central Bank (DNB)
The Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank - DNB) safeguards financial stability in the Netherlands, implements monetary policy, regulates the Dutch banks and exercises prudential control over securities and collective investment schemes.

ConsuWijzer
ConsuWijzer, an information resource for consumers, is a collaborative venture between the Consumer Authority, NMa and OPTA. ConsuWijzer aims to strengthen the position of consumers within the marketplace, by:

  • Informing consumers of their rights and obligations.
  • Providing practical legal advice.
  • Directing consumers to organisations and authorities where they can obtain legal redress.
These regulators together with the AFM all pursue the same goal: a properly functioning market that has the confidence of the participants and that is relatively accessible for all participants. Each regulator focuses on different issues and uses different methods to achieve this goal
